When silence matters

You may have noticed that I have maintained a silence for some time now…. yes, i had gone some degrees lower. But the sun arose.

You may have also missed me since some friend who is a good follower here called to inquire what had happened.

Let’s be clear, silence really matters.

While I was in my cacoon trying to rethink my existence, I was planning for this site soothing very interesting and with all of you in mind.

I was really asking myself difficult questions because I at some point had to jump into your shoes so that I understand you better.

I had posted just before the silence that I had joined wealthy affiliates, and you know what?

That is where all my attention had shifted to since I had targets and milestones to accomplish. I am now a better writer, better blogger, better affiliate and want to encourage someone today….

Why am I at WA?

Last week i posted an article informing you that i had joined Wealthy Affiliates and i went quiet.

My followers may have noticed that I went missing for almost 3days and maybe some thought I was quitting?

Not really, I just had to invite myself to a meeting with me and ask myself this sensitive yet life changing question;

For those who have had a chance to look at my profile, my first blog at WA was titled, “I can see the light”. To say the truth, the light seemed so dim but at least I could see it!

The training has been awesome!

I am as I had mentioned before, a slow digester of ideas, maybe in the endeavor to perfection? I cannot quite tell, but I tend to just want to do things correctly the very first time.

So, I could not quite justify my subscription to premium…..

Was it euphoria?

No!

Was it imagination that I could actually succeed here? …..No

Was it a dream?………No

All these questions were the agenda of my one invitee meeting for the last 3days. I had to answer myself why I was at WA.

Then I met my landlord……

While trying to minute the outcomes of the meeting, deep inside my ocean of thoughts, I met my landlord.

He had also become concerned that my long nights were accompanied by what sounded like American Accent videos that he couldn’t quite follow in as much as he wished…

And the monologue that sounded like frustration…..

“Why aren’t my pages appearing on the navigation?

“Why is this privacy policy not appearing as a page and I’ve just been following Kyle while practicing?”

“What am I not doing right?”

And so on and so forth.

Boom! I had to awaken….

Someone had been eves drooping….. shocked, I confirmed that I am trying to unlock my future!

He looked at me with mersmerization…. Your what?

Ok, I had to start him afresh with my work history and how our contracts were somehow ending in December 2019, and how I am trying to digest this while I maximize my time to ensure I faithfully follow my WA training, and how I have to ensure that as I exit, I have to continue paying my rent etc….

I noticed a change in him; the posture inclined, the tone softened, he became very attentive and I realized something, an entrepreneur’s spirit, a positive attitude and we sat down and talked.

But I was doing minutes…..

My landlord left but you could notice the submerged thoughts, he promised to officially come so that we wrap up “The Unlocking the future” meeting.

That is the exact point I changed my attitude towards WA.

I asked myself, if someone could see the light inside my thoughts; why not myself?

I decided to take the weekend and do most of my project winding tasks so that the backlog is lightened. I am hoping to be through by mid next month so that, I unlock my future for real….

Agenda: Why am I at WA?

Conclusion: Don’t mark time, keep going on with the training, practice the skills daily for the key to unlocking your future, the reason why you are at WA is in the Training and practice!

I may be guilty of mark timing yes, and many of us may be charged guilty too, but the reason as to why we are at WA is not for trial and error…..

The wait has been too long…….

What if I am the one? Managing anxiety in the long wait.

It is the most difficult time in the life of every living thing. It is even worse with human beings especially contract employees when waiting for the lifetime decision about fate of their future employment contract terms. The decision brings about major turning points and should be received positively however hard. It has happened, it is happening and it will still happen.

Therefore, the most important thing is how you handle yourself during the wait. It determines everything psychologically, physically, socially and even Spiritually. Here, i share some tips on how to survive during the dark period.

1. Pray over the anxiety and don’t allow it to engulf you.
2. Stay calm and do not panic because it could be very dangerous. Suicide should never cross your mind.
3. Be familiar with yourself and acknowledge what you are feeling is real.
4. If possible, document your thoughts or share them with someone close
5. Believe in yourself and list or share all the positive things that you know define you and your accomplishment.
6. Give your mind a walk down the memory lane by sharing with colleagues the most memorable experiences since you signed the contract
7. Keep your mind Busy; remember an empty mind is the devil’s workshop. Engage yourself in activities that reduce stress
8. Think outside the box for a minute; imagine if it were you, how would it be? what’s your financial status? Did you invest? If not, have a clearly laid down plan for the benefits you will get
9. Have a quiet time; Just take time and reflect, the mirrored image is very important.
10. If it is finally you, be positive and focus ahead. It’s never the end.

If only it were our wish…..

The early March 2019 US order to cut on the funding supporting the different partners concentrating on different USAID indicators has caused a cold in the stomach for the employees and rendered the employers helpless. In as much as implementing partners would love to retain the able workforce of professionals, hired competitively; the budgets can no longer hold it. But if only it were their wish……..

The mental torture that the employers are currently undergoing is unimaginable. Sleepless nights are common as they ponder on the many hardworking staff who were once very responsible going back to square one is traumatizing. I can never imagine being in any of the Chief of Party’s shoes now or in the coming few months. They are undergoing much torture deciding on how to cut the number of employees “downsizing” to fit the lean but demanding budgets. This is what I mean……….The axe was merciless!

Many people including the staff, their friends and relatives do not understand what happened. Some are speculating and even ignorantly making insensitive comments. Let’s decamp shortly and see what the “order” aimed at in reality.

Megan was as worried as most of the Africans are right now. Let’s wait and see how it unfolds. But…..

The budget cut axe which aimed at low budget pieces did not mind how many “mouths” were to be affected. It leaves even a bigger question, is it baking another bigger problem? We shall re-visit….

Taking an example of Kenya, USAID has been here for more than 50years , strengthening institutions; preserving natural resources; and improving the lives of Kenyans through better healthcare, education and economic opportunities https://www.usaid.gov/kenya .

We happened to fall under the “Improvement of lives through better healthcare “and that’s the focus of this blog. USAID support began generally in 1972 but 1995 marked its support for Kenyan government to fight against HIV Pandemic. This has been the largest share of the US support to Kenya since then.

USAID Launched PEPFAR support in 2003 and partners were invited to submit proposals on how to implement the support strategy. With APHIA as the genesis of partner implementation, many other organizations and consortium came in and integrated HIV with other Chronic diseases https://www.usaid.gov/kenya/global-health.

While the budget cut conversations were commencing, the estimates of the Kenyans living with HIV by April 2019; both adults and children was 2.6M with 1.5M being adults while 1.1 were children https://www.usaid.gov/documents/1860/controlling-hivaids-epidemic. However, with the US support for over 16years, it was expected that the government had been mentored well enough to take over HIV management.

There are many implementing partners in Kenya supporting HIV including local Community based organizations thematically addressing components within HIV Care. The leading implementing coverage is for over 150 thousand people of the HIV population in Kenya which equally requires a big workforce!

The US budget cuts affected the partners differently whereby some received 90% cut offs while others received at least 35% with additional coverage scope. This immediately called for partners to lay off staff accordingly to be able to afford their implementation responsibilities. Some partners have already implemented as per the ordered while others are still in shock thinking, “If only it were our wish…”.

It has been hard, it has been daunting, it has been so harsh but it sure must happen or else otherwise. With the budget cut ratios, strategies to ensure that painfully they lay off will be applied and most contracts will be ended by the end of October 2019.

It is indeed painful but i believe the most haunting imagination of all implementing partners is, if only it were our wish…….. buts it’s never the end!

It’s never the end……..

It comes with shock, confusion, many questions without answers but that’s a reality;

Contracts must end!

Maybe we can start with the basic concepts at hand.

What is an employment contract?
The Employment Dictionary defines it and i quote, ” Agreement between an employer and an employee. It is typically voluntary, deliberate, and legally enforceable, therefore, binding. The employee must agree to this contract as a condition of his/her employment. Employment contracts cover a variety of procedures and/or policies that are required for the employer to protect its own interest. The contract often states a time frame inhibiting the employee after they leave the company, from working for a competitor or in a similar industry. This section is often contested in the courts”. It is therefore evident that contracts end!

We usually feel good when we sign the start of the contract but it becomes a thorn in the flesh to sign off the contract. Is this familiar with you? Either way, we must not waste our time crying over a contract that has been swept by the wind but positively look ahead and re-strategize; Life must continue. It’s never the end!
